Who Refused to Attend Pres. Obama's 2012 State of the Union Address?

Dear Madame L,

WHO refused to attend the SOTU speech?

Sincerely,

A Reader

Dear Kind and Gentle Reader,

While several Republicans threatened to boycott the address, Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo) appears to be the only member of Congress who actually ended up refusing to attend.

Lamborn told the Denver Post he was angered by Pres. Obama's decision to deny expansion of the Keystone Pipeline, which would reach from Canada through the center of the U.S., passing through the largest aquifer in the central states to transport crude oil to Texas where it would be refined and then shipped to other countries.

Lamborn also announced the weekend before the address that he would run for a fourth term in the conservative district which includes Colorado Springs, where an even more conservative Republican opponent appears ready to challenge him.

Could the two be connected? Madame L leaves you, Dear and Gentle Readers, to draw any conclusions you like.

In contrast to Lamborn's decision to flaunt tradition and courtesy, his fellow Colorado Republicans not only attended but also sat with Democratic colleagues, continuing a tradition started in 2011 by Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo) after Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head by a constituent who disagreed with her political views.

Thanks for asking,

Madame L

Technically, the "constituent who disagreed with" Gabby Giffords is a mentally-challenged paranoid schizophrenic.

I suppose that's the same thing.
