Hypocrisy on Abortion (Old News)

Dear Readers,

Madame L was not shocked (unfortunately) to read about self-proclaimed "pro-life" congressman Scott DesJarlais (R-Tenn.) and his real views on abortion. On his website, we read, "All life should be cherished and protected. We are pro-life."

And indeed he has co-sponsored several anti-abortion laws, including the Life at Conception Act, which claims that "the right to life guaranteed by the Constitution is vested in each human being beginning at the moment of fertilization."

But we know what his REAL views on abortion are by the fact that he thinks his pregnant mistress, whom he met and started an affair with when she was a patient of his, should have one. (Hello?)

In audio tapes, he tells his mistress he's trying to get back with his wife and says, ""You told me you'd have an abortion, and now we're getting too far along without one." (His wife divorced him in 2001.)

All this happened 10 years ago, and so the congressman's campaign says it's "old news" and "character assassination" to bring it up now. (Hello?)

And the congressman is the person who taped the phone calls. (Hello?)

Some more tidbits from the tape give more insight to the congressman's integrity: He says, "I've been going crazy... I mean, if Susan could talk to you she'd tell you that I've been psychotic for months over this...You lied to me about something that caused us to be in this situation, and that's not my fault, that's yours." Her reply to that one is, "Well, it's your fault for sleeping with your patient." (Hello?)

Not shocked. But saddened. More cynical. (Good-bye.)

Sincerely,

Madame L
