Dear Madame L,
What did you think of the first debate between Obama and Romney? Do you think either of them "won"? Do you think this debate will change anything in the upcoming election?
Sincerely,

Big Bird for President! |
Dear Undecided,
Madame L did not watch the debate, as she was engaged in a much more important activity when the debate was broadcast. Madame L believes that listening to commentary on the radio afterward does not qualify her to judge a "winner" in the debate.
However, reading the news this morning online, Madame L read that Mitt Romney said in the debate that he would cut funding to public broadcasting. Specifically, he said:
"I’m sorry, Jim, I’m going to stop the subsidy to PBS. I like PBS. I
love Big Bird. I actually like you, too. But I’m not going to keep
spending money on things, borrowing money from China to pay for it.”
Madame L can imagine Mitt Romney giving that fake and condescending smile/smirk of his as he said that; and hates the way he and his conservative pals throw around catch-phrases like "borrowing money from China" to make excuses for their backward social views.
And Madame L can see why Mitt Romney would like to cut funding for PBS and all such programs for the 47%, those who would, without these programs, be forced to listen to rabid talk radio and watch Fox News for their "news."
In Madame L's opinion, that statement by itself is a good reason to vote against Mitt Romney and for Barack Obama. It is a symbol of all Romney stands for and against.
Sincerely, and Decidedly,
Madame L
